The Yuba County, Calif., Sheriff's Office ensures its K-9 officers are always kept cool while in the car. The agency's K-9 patrol vehicles feature technology that keeps the air conditioning on even when the key is removed from the ignition, reported Fox 40.

Sheriff's deputies carry pager-like devices that tell them the temperture of the front cabin and K-9 area of the vehicle. If the air conditioning should fail while a deputy is away from the car, the pager alerts the deputy and safeguards kick in — a window fan will turn on and, in some cases, the vehicle door may open automatically.

The technology is made by Ray Allen Manufacturing, a company that specializes in K-9 equipment.
