Fleet FAQ? Fleet Safety & Risk Management

Q. We have a solid training program in place for new drivers, but how can we ensure that we’re hiring safety-oriented drivers in the first place?

A. You’ve already taken the first step by focusing on safety during the hiring process. Prior to hiring an employee who will be driving for your company, you should:

• Include all official pre-employment checks required by law, including a motor vehicle record (MVR) check, a background check, and a check of any state licenses for obvious risk factors.

• Ensure that interviewees are informed about the company’s safety culture and high standards of driving during the application process. This will help weed out candidates who know they have poor driving records that can’t be held up to your high standards.
