Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling nearly 160,000 2019 Ram 1500 pickups — almost one-third of which are still in dealer hands — due to reports of power-steering loss.

Specifically, these vehicles may have a battery ground-circuit fastener that was not properly tightened and is loose enough to intermittently create an open circuit. With this scenario, the vehicle will retain steering capability. However, it could lead to inconsistent steering feedback, which can contribute to oversteer or understeer and increase the likelihood of a collision.

FCA is not aware of any injuries or accidents related to this issue.

To fix the problem, FCA or dealers will tighten loose fasteners on the affected vehicles. Owners can reach FCA customer service at (800) 853-1403.

Affected vehicle were produced before Oct. 25, 2018.
