Fleet FAQ? Driver Risk Management

Q. What kind of data can be extracted from telematics devices to help me manage risk?

 A. Telematics sensors can gather an enormous amount of data, and as long as it can be tied back to an individual driver (sometimes easier said than done), that data can be used to help them be the best driver they can be. Data from multiple telematics devices can be integrated to provide detailed view of a driver, including telematics sensors in smartphones, OBD-II devices and in-cab video systems. These systems can provide data about some or all of the behaviors indicated in risky driving:

  • Speeding
  • Rapid acceleration
  • Harsh braking
  • Cornering
  • Phone distractions
