The Plano Police Department in Texas has attached thermal cameras to its vehicles to give officers a better view of their surroundings at night. Infrared cameras have been attached to the spotlights of squad cars, which connect to the laptop inside the vehicle, reports WFAA.

This helps officers find people fleeing in the dark, skid marks or where brakes were applied before a collision, or a firearm that has recently been fired. In addition, officers can check out a handheld thermal camera that can be brought along during a call.
