The City of Albany, N.Y., approved $1.3 million to purchase 54 new vehicles for its Police Department. These will replace marked and unmarked patrol cars, as well as one 15-passenger van used by the police academy and four other trucks and specialty units, reports WFXL.

These new vehicles are expected to reduce maintenance costs. Police Chief Michael Persley told WFXL the Albany PD’s cars have a life cycle of about four years.
