The Iowa City (Iowa) Council approved an $844,000 design services agreement for the first phase of upgrades to its public works facility. According to city documents, the project will include shop spaces, vehicle parking, wash bays, a training tower for the fire department, and storage space for the police and fire departments.

The new facility will include a shop and vehicle-washing facility for the Equipment Division, and would allow the city to protect fleet vehicles better with indoor storage. Currently, vehicles are kept outdoors, and city rents space from a local fairgrounds for indoor storage during the winter, reports The Gazette.
