The City of Elkhart, Ind., established a new program beginning Jan. 1 that allows more officers to have take-home cars. The majority of officers now have them, WSBT reported.
Once an officer has been in the department for a year and a car becomes available, the officer gets an assigned vehicle that can be used for personal use. The officer must be available to respond to urgent calls.
