The Santa Rosa County, Fla., approved a local option sales tax to fund the purchase of 47 new patrol cars, but its sheriff said these purchases aren’t enough to replace all the aged vehicles in his fleet, WEARTV reported.

Sheriff Bob Johnson has 300 vehicles in his fleet, averaging more than 100,000 miles. His goal is to get the average mileage down to 70,000 miles and reduce maintenance costs, and he’s requesting more funding for vehicles to make that happen.

Some city officials took his side, but it’s up to county commissioners to make the decision on additional funds.
