The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors (Calif.) approved a $5.1 million bid to construct a new fleet service center. The High Desert Service Center will house eight light-vehicle service bays and three large drive-through truck service bays.

San Bernardino County was named the No. 1 Leading Fleet earlier this year. Fleet Management maintains or supports nearly 6,000 vehicles, about 300 fixed and portable generators, 100 fuel tanks, and six service centers to support operations for the largest county in the country. Currently, the Fleet Management Department operates out of a leased facility which, according to city documents, is considered inadequate for its operational needs.

The project will total $8 million, including land acquisition, project management, construction, and furniture, fixtures, and equipment. Funding will come from Fleet Management Internal Service Fund retained earnings. The county received 15 bids from contractors across the state.
