The Redlands Police Department (Calif.) is the first police agency to add the words "Peace Officer" to its entire fleet as a means of improving relations with the community.

The change was inspired by, funded, and overseen by Police2Peace, a charitable organization that seeks to facilitate better relations between law enforcement and the communities they serve. According to the organization, adding the "Peace Officer" decals to squad cars can change public sentiment in the department's favor and comes at no cost to the agency.

The inaugural cars will be unveiled on December 14. The updated vehicles will be presented by Redlands Mayor Paul Foster, Chief of Police Mark A. Garcia, and former NFL player and ESPN Host Eric Davis.

The Redlands Police Department is located about 60 miles east of Los Angeles and serves the 70,000 residents of the city.
