The Opelousas (La.) Police Department is advocating for a five-year lease agreement for 20 new vehicles, with its police chief citing the rising maintenance and fuel costs of its aging cars as the reason, the Daily World reported.

The department spent more than $106,000 last year for repairs and tires, exceeding the $50,000 budget. The lease would include maintenance costs.

City council has taken no action.
