Scotland County EMS in North Carolina was able to reduce the cost of new ambulances by remounting old boxes on two new chassis instead of buying two completely new units, reported the Laurinburg Exchange. The old ambulances’ diesel engines had mechanical issues and were frequently out of service. The new chassis have gasoline-powered engines.

The ambulances feature new cabinetry, wiring, flooring, paneling, and LED lights and are expected to last 10 to 12 years. Choosing remounting over new units saved the county about $115,000.
