The City of Houston’s Fire Chief Samuel Pena is asking city council for $10.9 million in annual fleet replacement funding. Over one quarter of fire engines and nearly half of ambulances are at or over the replacement age, forcing the Fire Department to use its over-aged reserve fleet too often, the Houston Press reported.
With this funding, Pena is requesting to purchase 16 ambulances, nine fire engines, and nine ladder trucks annually.
He also requested 10 high-water rescue boats, 20 evacuation boats, and eight more high-water vehicles for $1.7 million.
