The City of El Paso, Texas, council has approved $68.75 million in certificates of obligation for city improvements. Approved August 7, about a third of this funding will go toward public safety fleet purchases, KFOX14 reported.

Of the nearly $70 million approved, $25.1 million will go toward public safety, including $19.8 million to replace the police fleet, $1.8 million for two new fire trucks and one ambulance, and a half million dollars for non-public safety vehicles.

The remaining public safety funds will be used for police and fire facility improvements, according to documents provided at the city council meeting.
