Columbus (Ga.) Consolidated Government officials are questioning whether police vehicle replacements can be delayed and whether the public safety fleet can be reduced, the Ledger Enquirer reported.

Officials wanted to know whether pursuit vehicles’ seven-year, 100,000 mile replacement cycle can be extended, why so many pursuit vehicles were needed for some departments, and why one office had more vehicles than officers.

There are 146 vehicles that fit the city’s replacement criteria. These are expected to cost $13 million.
