The Lake County (Ind.) Sheriff’s Department’s request for its regular vehicle replacements is on hold as county commissioners discuss whether more safety measures are needed, reports the Post-Tribune.

Lake County commissioners noted a recent incident where a deputy rear ended another vehicle and did not remember what happened before the accident. The board suggested purchasing less vehicles and using the extra funds on dashboard cameras.

Sheriff Jon Buncich told the Post-Tribune this delay may prevent the agency from purchasing any vehicles this year because it may miss the 2018 production cycle.
