After years of leasing police motorcycles, the City of Evanston, Ill., is choosing to buy the vehicles instead after calculating that this move will save money, according to Evanston Now.
The city’s fleet services manager estimates the city can save $67,000 by buying the Harley Davidson motorcycles now and using them for another five years rather than continuing to pay annual lease fees over that time.
On March 27, city council approved staff’s recommendation to purchase seven Harley Davidson motorcycles for $108,276. Funding will come from the equipment replacement fund as well as vehicle lease charges.
