Monroe County, Mo., commissioners are urging voters to approve a half-cent sales tax in an election this week to pay for vehicle replacements. This wouldn’t increase taxes as a half-cent sales tax will no longer be collected this year, the Hannibal Courier-Post reported.
The money would help fund new squad cars for the Sheriff’s Department and replace motor graders and other equipment in the Road and Bridge Department. Repair bills for vehicles and equipment have risen, and squad cars have between 160,000 and 200,000 miles on them.
