The City of Springfield, Mass., has decided to put out a bid for a lease-purchase agreement to replace its aging refuse truck fleet. The city council approved a five-year contract for the lease-purchase of five automated trash trucks and one box truck for $1.6 million, MassLive reported.

The city has made an effort to reduce its aging fleet, including its fire apparatus, in recent years. A lease-purchase agreement lowers annual vehicle costs for the city to make it more affordable.
