Fayette County (W.Va.) is considering purchasing GPS systems in its fleet vehicles shortly after the Sheriff’s Department added GPS and WiFi services to 20 of its vehicles, the Montgomery Herald reported.

The main reason is to improve employee safety, whether that’s to track vehicles involved in accidents, employees in altercations with citizens, or employees driving in rural areas, especially during inclement weather, one commissioner said.

An additional benefit the county hopes to see is cost savings. U.S. Cellular has offered service for 16 vehicles at $348 per month.
