The Butte County (Calif.) Sheriff's Office hopes to purchase snowmobiles to improve patrol during winter. The agency's patrol area includes the Jonesville Snow Park, Plumas National Forest, and Lassen National Forest. With snowmobiles, the Sheriff's Office would be able to respond to emergencies year-round instead of relying on patrol cars alone, reports the Gridley Herald.

In order to fund these snowmobiles, the agency is applying for grant funding through the California State Parks Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Program.
