The City of Augusta, Ga., may take on maintenance in-house in an effort to cut costs. Currently, the city outsources fleet maintenance to First Vehicle Services. But city commissioners told WJBF they want to know if it would be cheaper to bring maintenance in-house.

Next week, commissioners will decide whether to renew First Vehicle's maintenance contract. They are expected to renew the contract for one year while city officials observe the fleet operation. Commissioners want a final recommendation on whether to bring maintenance in-house by June.

According to city documents, the one-year contract will cost the city $2.9 million. This is lower than the year before. In an effort to lower costs, the city's Central Services Division identified underutilized vehicles to be removed from the service contract.
