The City of Anderson, Ind., council has approved funds to purchase 19 new patrol cars for the Police Department, but also said it wanted to amend its police take-home car policy, the Herald Bulletin reported.

About 70% of take-home cars leave city limits, and council members thought the high percentage was not fiscally responsible. The mayor and police chief will present an amended policy in February.

The vehicles being replaced are 10 to 15 years old and have excessive mileage, the Herald Bulletin reported.
