Gerry Calk, fleet services director for the City of Austin, Texas, has announced that he will retire. His last work day is Dec. 30.

Calk has worked at the Austin fleet since 2008, managing more than 6,400 units. He previously worked at other public fleets and served for 20 years in the United States Army, specializing in vehicle and equipment maintenance and management.

His accomplishments at the city include leading the fleet to develop the city’s plan for a carbon-neutral fleet, create a partnership for an automotive internship program, obtain $10 million in grant funding for fleet acquisitions, implement a technician incentive program, and obtain numerous awards and certifications.

The interim city manager plans to appoint an acting fleet services director before Calk’s departure.
