Washington County (Minn.) has unveiled its new Public Works North Shop in the city of Stillwater. This is the department's primary facility that's responsible for maintaining over 300 miles of county roads, 100 traffic signals, and 600 vehicles from the county fleet.
At 104,000 square feet, the new energy-efficient facility is almost double the size of its old shop but is expected to use less energy than before. It features LED lighting, heat-reclamation systems, and an energy-efficient roof, reports the Stillwater Gazette. Stormwater treatment ponds will also collect water leaving the facility.
Construction on the North Shop was completed ahead of schedule and about $1 million under its $19.2 million budget, reports the Pioneer Press.
