Commissioners from Armstrong County (Pa.) have adopted a policy to reduce the county's take-home fleet by 75% to reduce operating costs.
Under the policy, only four county officials will be able to utilize take-home vehicles, including the district attorney, sheriff, coroner, and handler for the sheriff's K-9, according to the Kittanning Paper. Of the 20 vehicles in the take-home fleet, 15 were dedicated to these departments.
County officials hope to save money on insurance, parts, and maintenance on the 16 vehicles that will be cut. These vehicles cost the county approximately $20,000 annually on maintenance alone, according to the Kittanning Paper.
Armstrong County plans to sell off the remaining vehicles through an online auction. Money collected will go into the County General Fund.
