Scott County, Iowa, has hired Barbara Branscom as its new fleet manager. The newly created position oversees maintenance, repair, and use of county vehicles, the Quad City Times reported.

The county decided to create the role based on research from Mercury Associates, a consulting firm it hired in 2012. Previously, each department managed maintenance for its own vehicles. The research suggested that having one central fleet manager would gain better efficiencies for the county, as the different departments overseeing their vehicles might not have someone qualified to fill the role.

The county posted the position in February, attracting 42 candidates and conducting three interviews.
