Multnomah County (Ore.) Sheriff Dan Staton bought a higher trim Dodge Charger with unnecessary features to replace a one-year-old vehicle, ignoring county purchasing policies as well as the fleet manager’s refusal to buy him the car, the Willamette Week has reported.
Stanton's Charger R/T has a V-8 engine, oversized wheels, sunroof, and satellite radio. The fleet manager informed the Sheriff’s Office there was no replacement funding available to buy this vehicle. The sheriff purchased it anyway, using funds from his own budget. The R/T costs about $6,000 more than the base model.
The Willamette Week discovered this information a week after Staton was asked to resign for poor management.
