The Sun City (Ariz.) Fire and Medical Department has been acquiring ambulances from nearby cities in preparation to launch a new emergency medical service unit to handle acute patients, reports YourWestValley.com.

The Sun City Fire District authorized the purchase of three vehicles, including a 1997 Ford E-350 and second ambulance from Three Points, as well as a 2001 Pierce Quantum that was refurbished this year. The cost of the vehicles range from $3,500 to $9,000.

Earlier this month, the department purchased a 2010 Dodge ambulance from Tuttle, Okla., with about 150,000 miles.

The total cost for the four vehicles was less than $50,000.
