The City of Wilmington, N.C., is considering providing fleet maintenance services to New Hanover County at five of the county’s fire stations. The contract would be for six months at an estimated cost of $25,000 to be reimbursed by the county.

This follows a successful six-month trial period where the city provided services at two stations. The new contract would authorize the city to provide labor, equipment, and materials for preventive maintenance and repairs for all vehicles assigned to the five stations. The county will be billed for costs and cover the cost of additional insurance needed for the services.

During this six-month period, city staff will also evaluate a possible consolidation of its fire fleet management into the city’s central fleet operations, according to city council documents. According to WECT, Wilmington Fire Department is the only department that maintains a separate fleet maintenance unit.

City council will vote on the resolution at its Jan. 19 meeting.
