The Desloge (Mo.) Police Department is using a lease-purchase funding model to acquire new vehicles to replace aging patrol cars, reports the Daily Journal.

The budget was approved for the department to purchase one, and lease purchase two other Ford Police Interceptor Utility SUVs, Police Chief James Bullock told the outlet. The department plans to phase out its Crown Victoria cars. They currently have one more left, which is used as a K-9 unit vehicle.

The department generally only purchases one new vehicle a year, but the chief hopes to reduce the time between new vehicle purchases with the lease-to-purchase option. The fleet is now comprised of eight vehicles.
