The Creek County (Okla.) Sheriff's Office is adding "In God We Trust" to its detective and deputy vehicles as a patriotic rather than religious act, Sheriff John Davis told News9.
"This is patriotic," Davis told the media outlet. "It's our national motto. It's not that the Creek County Sheriff's Office is trying to impose or force religious beliefs on anybody."
President Eisenhower declared the phrase the national motto in 1956 and it has appeared on U.S. currency for almost 100 years.
