Pierce Manufacturing is recalling 910 2006-2007 model-year Arrow XT, Dash, Enforcer, Lance, and Quantum fire truck chassis manufactured from Jan. 1, 2006, to March 31, 2007, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

In these vehicles, tears in the ball joint protective boots may result in contamination of the ball joints. Such contamination may lead to premature ball joint failure, and the wheel may disengage from the control arm. These conditions increase the risk of a vehicle crash, NHTSA said.

Pierce dealers will inspect the trucks for torn ball joint boots and evaluate the ball joint wear. Those with too much wear will be replaced, free of charge, NHTSA said.

The recall is expected to begin Nov. 30. Truck owners can reach Pierce customer service at (888) 974-3723. Pierce’s number for this recall is 74B267.
