The Riverside County (Calif.) Sheriff’s Department put into service a new helicopter in late October and will add another new one in a few weeks, boosting its air fleet to six helicopters, the Press Enterprise reported.

These helicopters cost $5.2 million each, paid for by the general fund and insurance money from a crash last year. The Sheriff’s Department will retire a 1969 chopper once used in the Vietnam War when the second new unit arrives.

The Riverside Sheriff's Department is the second largest Sheriff's Office in California, according to its website.
