The City of Newark, Del., council approved $940,000 to replace four refuse trucks after voting down a controversial plan to outsource refuse collection, the Newark Post Online reported.

The seven-year outsourcing deal would have saved the city $4.9 million, but it would have meant selling the city’s refuse fleet and cutting eight jobs. Residents were opposed to the plan.

Funding is available through an equipment replacement fund, the newspaper reported.
