Trimble has acquired privately held PocketMobile, a Stockholm, Sweden-based provider of enterprise mobile workforce solutions for international customers in the areas of postal service and logistics, security, and field service, Trimble announced.

The acquisition accelerates Trimble's development in the high-growth field-to-office mobility market, according to the company. Financial terms were not disclosed.

PocketMobile's PreCom platform is a scalable, enterprise mobility platform for companies with a large mobile work force. These customers often have complex and business critical processes, with information-heavy and time critical requirements, and multiple backend systems.

The PreCom platform provides functionality templates and tools that enable system integrators or the customer to efficiently build, configure and maintain mobile solutions. PreCom connects the field to the office and simplifies work processes. The PreCom platform supports multiple mobile workforce users, devices and workflows.

PocketMobile's partner network includes more than 150 certified developers and system integrators with a PreCom Center of Excellence. The PreCom platform is used in more than 25 countries.

The market outlook for platform-based mobile workforce solutions is growing rapidly as technology shifts to smart phones, new mobile operating systems and the requirement to quickly introduce new services, according to Trimble. PocketMobile will be reported as part of Trimble's Mobile Solutions segment.
