The City of South Beloit, Ill., is expanding its fleet with the purchase of two bucket trucks that are 16 and 20 years old to trim trees and repair large equipment at the city’s wastewater treatment plant, according to Beloit Daily News.
The City Council has approved the purchase of two used trucks from Trickie Enterprises of Machesney Park. The council allocated $15,000 for the two trucks — a 1999 and 1995 model.
The city also plans to sell a former fire station, which was appraised at $100,000. A state statute requires the city to sell the city-owned building for 80% of its appraisal. However, past attempts at selling the building have been unsuccessful.
A provision in the state statute now lets the city sell the building for less than 80% of the appraised value since the city’s unemployment rate is higher than the national unemployment rate, making it economically challenged.
