The City of Petersburg, Va., is suing the Petersburg Sheriff's Office to reclaim 11 city-owned vehicles from the Sheriff’s Office, according to The Progress-Index.

The lawsuit asks Sheriff Vanessa Crawford to turn over vehicle keys or pay $30,751 to rekey the vehicles city officials had towed from the sheriff’s lot and four vehicles they claim the office is hiding.

Crawford said the office needs the vehicles for its duties and called the lawsuit "frivolous."

The city reduced its Sheriff's Office fleet after closing the city jail earlier this year.
