The New York Police Department has told officers driving its new Smart Cars not to use them to pursue a suspect, even though they can reach speeds of up to 90 mph and are more maneuverable than larger police vehicles, reports the New York Daily News.
The department sent a memo to its officers earlier this month, informing them of the policy.
The city purchased eight Smart cars in February to replace aging three-wheeled scooters for traffic enforcement and patrol duties in Central Park.
