The City of Columbia (Mo.) has budgeted $4.5 million in revenue from an upcoming sales tax initiative that would be earmarked to fund upgrades to an antiquated vehicle service garage if voters approve the measure, reports the Missourian.

The garage, at 1313 Lakeview Ave., services all city vehicles, including four public works divisions — solid waste, street, transit, and fleet operations.

Voters will decide on Aug. 4 whether to extend existing sales tax at its current level for another 10 years. The tax was approved in 2005 and is one-fourth of 1 percent for construction, maintenance, repairs, and replacements of city infrastructure. It's set to expire on Dec. 31.
