Terex South Dakota is recalling 48 2002 model-year Hi-Ranger XT55 and XT60 tree trimmer trucks because their lower booms may have been built using material that doesn’t meet strength specifications.

As a result, the booms might crack and fail, increasing the risk of injury to the boom operator or others nearby, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

The booms at issue were manufactured from Aug. 1, 2002, to Dec. 31, 2002.

Terex dealers will inspect each truck’s lower boom to verify it was made with the correct material, NHTSA said. Any boom manufactured with improper material will be replaced, free of charge.

Truck owners can reach Terex customer service at (800) 982-8975.
