The West Valley City (Utah) Fire Department is refurbishing its ambulances rather than replacing them in order to save money, KSL.com reported.

The city's fleet division has already refurbished the interior and components of one ambulance, then mounted the unit onto a new chassis.

Refurbishing can save about $75,000 per ambulance. The city has four ambulances and two transport units purchased in 2005.
