The Madison, Ala., Police Department has used a $320,000 grant from a local foundation to purchase eight new fully equipped police vehicles, reports AL.com.

Chief Larry Muncey applied to The Alpha Foundation in Huntsville to request the grant. "What can you say; what a wonderful gift," Muncey told the City Council on Dec. 8.

Forty percent of the department's patrol cars have more than 100,000 miles and many have more than 200,000 miles. The agency maintains 82 vehicles in its police fleet. The agency has used grants to fund vehicle purchases in the past.
