Cascade County, Montana, has been able to save money by consolidating purchasing under the Public Works department and plans to implement a vehicle replacement plan that would take a fleet vehicle out of service at 10 years or 100,000 miles.

Public Works Director Brian Clifton has led the purchasing of 21 2015-model-year county vehicles from Bison Ford and City Motor Co. for $620,891, reports the Great Falls Tribune. The purchase includes six police interceptors as well as pickups and SUVs for Public Works and other departments.

Buying vehicles in bulk has given the county greater purchasing power, Clifton said.
