The City of Mobile (Ala.) has begun adding new police vehicles to its patrol ranks in plan to add 103 new vehicles as it downsizes its fleet to 609 cars from 644.

The city has been adding Chevrolet Caprice PPVs and Impala Limited sedans to replace aging units that in some cases have as many as 300,000 miles on the odometer, reports Fox News. The agency plans to use the Impalas as unmarked units. The new vehicles will be outfitted with mobile data terminals allowing officers to access criminal databases from their units.

About 31% of the aging vehicles have between 150,000 to 300,000 miles.
