The Philadelphia Police Department has added two AStar helicopters to its aircraft fleet for patrol duties, harbor and coastal patrol, rescue missions, and SWAT team insertions.

The agency purchased the AS350B2 airships from Airbus Helicopters, and took delivery in late June. The new helicopters will expand the agency's capabilities, allowing it to perform hoist rescue missions, as well as homeland and port security missions.

"We're very happy with the completion of our first helicopter," said Capt. Kenneth O'Brien, head of the Philadelphia PD's Aviation Unit. "We'll be a more capable aviation unit with this upgraded aircraft."
