The Wichita Fire Department in Kansas recently put into service 10 new fire apparatus, nine new Pierce fire engines and a new ladder truck, at the city’s 22 fire stations.
The new fire trucks replace an aging fleet. According to The Wichita Eagle, the engines were purchased for about $6.5 million through the city’s 10-year capital improvement program.
The department utilizes a replacement plan based on age, mileage, and repair cost when determining how often replacement apparatus will be purchased.
“The acquisition of the new apparatus will help insure the emergency services in our community remains at a high level,” Fire Chief Ronald Blackwell said in a release.
