The Duluth (Ga.) Police Department has begun using a GPS launcher device to help end high-speed pursuits before they turn deadly.

The StarChase system shoots a canister with an embedded GPS tracking device from the front of a police vehicle that sticks onto the back of the scofflaw's vehicle, reports WSB-TV.

Police officers can then back off the suspect's vehicle and track it at slower speeds via a computer screen in the patrol car. The device can be armed and fired while the patrol car is in motion or stopped.
