The City of Niagara Falls will purchase 15 Chevrolet Tahoe SUVs and Malibu sedans for officers, replacing three-fourths of the police fleet.

The $500,000 outlay is the first since 2008 for new police vehicles and will be funded by casino revenue from the Seneca Nation of Indians, reports the Buffalo News. The city is purchasing nine Tahoe SUVs and six Malibu sedans.

The city opted for the SUVs because of their lower cost, higher resale value, and greater longevity, Police Superintendent Bryan DalPorto told the media outlet.
